English: As the figure indicates, the brainstem is anatomically placed in a region where its mobility is limited. Rotational acceleration, depicted by the red arrows, causes a concentration of shear stress that ultimately results in strain (deformation) of the brain tissue in the brainstem region, most notably the midbrain. |
