Pvt. Robert Stevenson (CP 905), National Museum of Health and Medicine

Description: Private Robert Stevenson, 198th Pennsylvania volunteers, showing the scars from a gunshot wound to his right groin sustained at the Battle of Gravelly Run on March 25th, 1865. Stevenson did improve. Caption reads: “Gunshot wound [flesh] of inguinal region. Pvt Robert Stevenson Co _ 198th Penna.” Photograph by R.B. Bontecou.

History is on reverse: "Robert Stevenson. Robert Stevenson, Private, 198th Pa. Vols., aged 23, was admitted to Harewood U.S.A. Gen’l Hospital, April 2, 1865, with gunshot (flesh) wound, the ball entering right groin, and making its exit near trochanter major. Wounded March 25, 1865, at battle of Gravelly Run, Va. Progressed favorably. Transferred to U.S. Gen’l Hospital Philadelphia, Pa., May 12, 1865. Doing well. Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital, R.B. Bontecou, Surgeon U.S. Vols., In charge.”
