Title
Post-medieval winding key (clock)
Description
English: A post-medieval copper-alloy rotary key with an oval bow surmounted by a circular suspension loop. The stem is circular in cross-section and has a collar with three ridges where it meets the bow. There is a simple bit with two parallel projections forking out from the stem. The suspension loop and the bow are decorated on both sides with incised lines (around the loop) and a wreath (around the bow). A similar key can be found illustrated in Allan (1984, p. 344, fig. 193; ref. M.190), there described as probably a clock key, and found in a late C17th context.
