Summary[edit]

Description
English: Spiro T. Agnew (1962-1966)

The third County Executive and first Republican to be elected to the office, Agnew had an unusually quick rise in government from his first elected office as County Executive in 1962 to Governor in 1967 to Vice-President in 1969. In Baltimore County he supported but did not achieve reforms in racial integration, gun control, property tax, and urban renewal. However, later as Governor and Vice-President, he was highly critical of civil rights protesters. In 1973, he resigned from the Vice-Presidency amid kickback scandals involving bribery, extortion, and tax evasion during his time in all three offices, dating back to 1963. He pleaded nolo contendere to a charge of tax evasion in federal district court and was later ordered to repay $250,000, the amount of kickbacks plus interest, to the State.

Public domain
The Public Domain Mark (PDM) is not a copyright license, but a symbol used to indicate that a work is in the public domain. When it is applied by the author or the copyright holder, community consensus has decided such works as being public domain in the US and countries where it is legally possible to release own work to the public domain. In the countries where this is not possible, the copyright status of the work remains undetermined.
If a file is tagged with Public Domain Mark by someone other than the author or the copyright holder, a more specific copyright tag such as one found at Commons:Copyright tags/General public domain must be applied. If this is your own work, please use {{Cc-zero}} instead.
