| Description |
English: The Port Tampa City Library is a library in a historic bank building in Port Tampa section of Tampa, Florida at 4902 W. Commerce Street. It is a neighborhood branch in the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System. The current neo-classical library building opened in 1926 as the First Bank of Port Tampa. It closed after the stock market crash of 1929. In the following years it housed a grocery store, a health clinic, a flight school, and a boutique.Through out World War II,and many years ofter, it served as a grocery storeknown as Toffaleti Brothers and featured the local grown vegetables of Oscar W. Batchman, Sr who grew these vegetables just accross the street on land leased from the Railroad. |
