Description
English: An engraved plate in the Macklin Bible (Cadell & Davies edition of the Apocrypha) after a specially-commissioned painting by Philippe De Loutherbourg. Photographed from the Bowyer bible, Bolton, England. 26.3238. The Sacrilege of Antiochus. During a battle Antiochus carries a large stolen menorah and an embroidered altar cloth over his shoulder to right (1 Macabbees 1:21-24). 1815. Inscriptions: Lettered below image with title, text reference, production detail: "P. J. De Loutherbourg Pinxt.", "W. Bromley Sculpt." and publication line: "London, Published June 1st. 1815, by T. Cadell & W. Davies Strand". Print made by William Bromley. Dimensions: Height: 480 millimetres; width: 380 millimetres.
