Summary[edit]

Description
Français : Plan de Belleforest vers 1550, publié en 1575.
English: Map of Paris first published in 1575 as plate [9], tome 1, volume 1, of La Cosmographie universelle de tout le monde by François de Belleforest (his French translation of Sebastian Münster's Cosmographia of 1544). It is a rather faithful reproduction of the map of Saint Victor of 1552 (see File:Old map of Paris.jpg), but with some new features added. One of the most notable, labelled as letter N ("La maison de la Royne, dicte les thuilleries"), is one of the earliest depictions of Catherine de' Medici's Palais des Tuileries (begun by Philibert de l'Orme in 1564; continued after his death in 1570 by Jean Bullant; completed in its initial state in 1580). Cruche, engraver [identified as Pierre Eskrich (1518 or 1520 – last mention 1590 in Paris)]
