the blood acts upon the vaso-motor centres and thus affects the skin, while in other cases theeruption is directly due to the irritation resulting from the cutaneouselimination of the drug. The eruption resulting from the administration of the balsamof copaiba has always been one of the most common forms ofdermatitis medicamentosa, particularly in clinics for venereal disease. It usually assumes the form of an acute maculo-papular eruption ofa bright, rosy hue. and but slightly elevated above the surface ofthe skin. It is commonly seen upon the extensor aspect of theextremities but may affect the trunk and other parts. The subject of the illustration presented an unusually exten-sive eruption which had all the clinical appearances of an erythemamultiforme. In fact, had it not been for the rosy tint n( the lesionsand their speedy disappearance after the discontinuance of the drug, the eruption might have been regarded as a typical case of exudativeerythema of the papular form. This eruption looks very much like a pustular ortubercular syphilide, and in the case shown in the second illustration,I made an erroneous diagnosis and treated the child for syphilis forsome time before the true nature of the eruption was discovered. The child had first taken some bromide in a cough mixture, andwhen the eruption appeared, larger doses had been given to lessenits irritability. The lesions of the bromide eruption are spongy andinflammatory in character, often soaked with pus, and ought not tobe confounded with the firmer nodules caused by syphilis. Theymay occur upon the face and neck or other portions of the body, but in my experience are most common upon the lower extremities. They are usually flattened or condylomatous and
