Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Puni - a Tagalog term for the art of palm leaves weaving or folding which is coined to be the origami version of the Philippines that involves leaves instead of paper. Unlike before, wherein this folk art is an integral part of the Filipino daily lives, it is slowly dying. In the old times they use this technique to make baskets, food containers and even toys for the kids. Nowadays, you can just see puni on some street vendors that sells, "kakanin" - local delicacies that are wrapped in palm leaves using the puni folding/weaving technique. You could also witness the skills of a puni leaf folder/weaver during Palm Sunday, wherein you can see a lot of vendors selling and making "palaspas"" with different styles and intricate leaf folding techniques you could choose from.
