y after the caustic, asponge dipped in diluted vinegar should be applied, in order to pre-vent injury to the surrounding sound parts; and if it is necessary tointroduce the caustic within the urethra, it must be done by means ofa tube with an aperture in it corresponding to the diseased surface. Uterine Polypus. Treatment. A ligature should be twistedtightly round its neck, but not too near the womb, by means of thedouble canula. Imperforate Hymen. Sometimes this membrane completelyobstructs the vagina, and causes the menstrual fluid to accumulateand distend the uterus. The impediment is easily removed by acrucial incision. The Labia may be the seat of acute inflammation, and of en-cysted tumors, and sarcomatous or fatty enlargements. The treat-ment of these cases requires no distinct description. The clitorisand nymphae, if they grow to an inconvenient size, should be cur-tailed by the knife. If they are affected with scirrhus, they shouldbe entirely extirpated at an early period. PL
