The stilet c is for the pur-pose of removing any obstruction which may occur in the ca-theter; it is made of steel, so thin and flexible as to be capableof being readily pushed into the chambers of the instrument,as indicated by the dotted curved line. Care should be taken, that the fluid thus introduced intothe bladder has been freed from all solid matter which, if re-tained, would serve as the nucleus for calculous formations;it should, moreover, be tepid in temperature, and of a slightlymucilaginous character.
