e whole affair was, how-ever, perfectly friendly on both sides, and 112 OLD BOSTON BOYS the promoters of the little scheme weredelighted at Johns victory. Poor Jim Hills end was a sad one. Inone of his many rough experiences withthe Fort Hill toughs, he was so hardpressed that he had recourse to his revolverand had the misfortune to shoot an inno-cent bystander, for which accident he wasdismissed from the force. He never re-covered from the blow, took to drink, anddied a complete wreck. Ned Fenno was another fine boxer, andmade a name for himself while at Harvard.Malcolm Forbes was a splendid exponentof the art, being a very quick and powerfulhitter. Joe Fay, too, was among the best,as well as being a noted oarsman.
