Grafit, tejprulle och grafentransistor Det som händer när man skriver med en blyertspenna är att flagor av materialet grafit fastnar på papperet. En extremt tunn sådan flaga skulle vara ett nät av kolatomer som är endast ett atomskikt tjockt. Länge var detta ett rent teoretiskt material som ansågs omöjligt att framställa i verkligheten. Andre Geim och Konstantin Novoselov prövade dock att med vanlig tejp fånga upp tunna flagor från en bit grafit och det visade sig att vissa av flagorna bara var ett atomlager tjocka. Det nya materialet grafen var verklighet och dess egenskaper kunde kartläggas. Grafen är det tunnaste och samtidigt starkaste materialet som någonsin framställts. Det leder elektricitet bättre än de flesta material. Inom tekniken öppnar grafen möjligheter inom såväl materialteknik som nya elektronik. Det första provet på grafen i en elektronisk komponent visas till höger. Föremålen donerades till Nobelmuseet av Andre Geim och Konstantin Novoselov 2010.Deutsch: Graphit, Klebeband und Graphentransistor: Schreibt man mit einem Bleistift, bleiben Graphitflocken am Papier haften. Eine extrem dünne Flocke besteht aus einem Netz von Kohlenstoffatomen, die nur eine Atomschicht dick ist. Lange Zeit existierte dieses Material nur in der Theorie und man dachte, dass es unmöglich real existieren könne. Andre Geim und Konstantin Novoselov gelang es jedoch, mit gewöhnlichem Klebeband dünne Flocken aufzufangen und zu zeigen, dass einige dieser Flocken nur eine Atomlage dick sind. Das neue Material Graphen war Wirklichkeit und dessen Eigenschaften konnten untersucht werden. Graphen ist das dünnste und gleichzeitig stärkste bekannte Material. Es leitet den elektrischen Strom besser als die meisten anderen Materialien. In der Technik eröffnet Graphen neue Möglichkeiten sowohl in der Materialwissenschaft als auch der Elektronik. Die erste Probe von Graphen in einer elektronischen Komponente ist links zu sehen.
Das Objekt wurde dem Nobelmuseum durch Andre Geim und Konstantin Novoselov 2010 geschenkt. |
