English: There is chaos in Venezuela: a country that once belonged to the richest countries of South-America has fallen into a deep crisis. The economy has collapsed, food is scarce and due to a serious shortage there is no medicine or medical staff available. Pharmacists have to send patients away emptyhanded.
During the 26th Freedomlecture, the Venezuelan activist Efraím Vegas will speak about the terifying human rights situation in Venezuela. In the documentary Está Todo Bien we see how Vegas risks his life by illegally distributing medicine. In this programme Vegas speaks about his experiences in smuggling medicine and his ideas on freedom, hope and resistance. Nina Jurna, Correspondent Latin America –NRC Handelsblad based in Rio de Janeiro recently visited Venezuela and speaks about her work and experiences there. Edwin Koopman, correspondent and analyst in the field of Latin America will share his view with us as well. Writer, poet and performer Rachel Rumai Diaz is a native foreigner that has travelled through the world collecting memories, languages and cultures to translate them into her own words. She is fluent in Spanglish and will teach you some words along the way while taking you on a rollercoaster of life through her eyes. |
