Serment au drapeau westphalien,La Westphalie était certes une monarchie constitutionnelle, mais l’essentiel du pouvoir restait entre les mains du roi. Comme le royaume faisait partie de la confédération du Rhin, son armée était surtout destinée à renforcer la Grande Armée commandée par Napoléon. Le royaume constituait donc un État satellite de l’Empire français et s’effondra dès la défaite de Napoléon à Leipzig en 1813. La statue de Bosio ne rejoignit jamais Kassel, n’ayant pu être envoyée en Westphalie avant la chute du royaume. Elle était peut-être destinée à orner la salle des États de Kassel, le premier hémicycle parlementaire allemand, construit par l’architecte français Grandjean de Montigny dans le Museum Fridericianum.
