Tomahawk and Drop The tomahawk is a steel Hudson’s Bay Company trade item, attached to a squared handle of cottonwood . Decorative elements include brass tacks, ribbon and wool cloth on the handle. The drop is made from a piece of buffalo hide painted on the reverse with yellow ochre. The front is decorated with glass beads and edged with wool trade cloth. The fringe consists of wound glass beads and shells threaded onto buckskin strips. This tomahawk and drop comes from the Carter Collection, and was originally from the Looking Glass family Metal, cottonwood (Populus tricocarpa), glass beads, buffalo hide (Bos bison).
