English: New Ross: Matthew Furlong statue and The Tholsel Inn Matthew Furlong was a martyr of the Irish rebellion of 1798 and was killed in the Battle of New Ross when he marched forward with a white flag of truce. This statue of him was unveiled in 1907 in front of an estimated crowd of 20,000 people. It is in Quay Street opposite the Tholsel 269975 with The Tholsel Inn behind. |
