Description
English: Destruction at the village of Montaubau, France. About thirty men stand on the mound of rubble, grouped around the statue of the Virgin Mary. Poignantly, the statue has been hit in the shoulder by a bullet. It is possible that this image was staged by the photographer for publication in the British press.
