Summary[edit]

Description
English: Looking northwest at the National Bank of Gallatin Valley Building (1 W. Main Street), in Bozeman, Montana.

J.E. Martin and J.A. Hall established the Martin & Hall banking investment house in 1903, and two years later incorporated it as the National Bank of Gallatin Valley. They constructed a headquarters building for their bank in 1906. The walls are made of cast stone and concrete blocks in the Classical Revival style. The main entrance features fluted Doric columns, and patterned cast stone cornice moldings surround the first and second floor. A frieze once surrounded the first floor below the cornice molding, but has long since been removed.

The bank closed on Spetember 15, 1926, with only $50,000 in capital, and was absorbed by the Commercial National Bank of Bozeman. In time, the Commercial National Bank became First Security Bank, which remains in business today in Bozeman.

The Main Street Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 21, 1987. The National Bank of Gallatin Valley Building is a contributing property to this district.
