Description |
English: The portrait of Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, is part of the so-called "serie aulica" (or "of the most serene princes"), a collection of portraits of the most important members of the House of Medici.
The work, commissioned by Francesco I, Cosimo's son, was delivered to the Uffizi Gallery before 16 July 1585. From this painting Cigoli realized a portrait of Cosimo at full lenght, prototype of all following portraits of Medicean Grand Dukes in cerimonial robes. |
