Summary[edit]

Description Credit: National Achives, College Park, MD Caption: Many of the standards of care promoted by the Children's Bureau and established first in State crippled children's programs proved of value in the World War II Emergency Maternity and Infant Care program. These included standards for selection of hospitals and specialists and policies on payment for care to hospitals and physicians. The soldier, his wife and child (pictured above) were among the millions of GI families benefiting from the program.
