Murrisk Friary, Murrisk, County Mayo, Ireland


English: Memorial of John Christopher Garvey of Murrisk at the east wall of the nave on the right side of the east window. Inscription: Erected by his afflicted widow to the memory of her beloved husband, John Christopher Garvey, J.P. D.L. whose mortal remains repose near the altar of this abbey. He died April 5th A.D. 1856, aged 58 years. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.” (See [1]: “Under the Acts of Settlement the Garveys were granted lands at Murrisk and Carrowkeel in the parish of Oughaval, barony of Murrisk, county Mayo. At the time of Griffith's Valuation John Christopher Garvey held nine townlands in the parish and in 1876 his son Francis owned 1,890 acres in county Mayo.”)
