True to promise, on December 28, 1912, the GearyStreet Municipal Railway operated its first cars over the line fromKearny street to Thirty-third avenue. \Vith each month additionalcars were brought into service. A campaign had to be waged beforethe people for the ratification of an agreement whereby the cityscars were enabled to reach the Ferry Building over lower Marketstreet. Without the ratification of this agreement long years oflitigation would have made Kearny street the easterly terminus ofthe line. The people, however, overwhelmingly approved of thearrangement that had been entered into, and their wisdom was shownI)y the immediate and remarkable increase in the receipts of the rail-way.
