English: MIRZA MAHDI KHAN ASTARABADI (D.1759): TARIKH-I NADERI

QAJAR IRAN, DATED AH 1225/1810-11 AD

The history of Nadir Shah, Persian manuscript on European watermarked paper, 151ff. plus 3 fly-leaves, each folio with 15ll. of elegant black nasta'liq, key words and Qur'anic passages highlighted in red, set inside gold rules, headings in red nasta'liq set in white clouds reserved against gold ground with polychrome floral illumination at either end, opening bifolium with black nasta'liq in similar white cloud, illuminated gold and polychrome floral headpiece and margins with scrolling arabesques, in original floral lacquer binding, doublures with cusped medallions containing portraits of ladies in European dress and smaller birds set on a red ground with scrolling gold arabesques, two later seal impressions on the opening fly-leaf Text panel 7¼ x 4in. (18.4 x 10.4cm.); folio 10½ x 6 7/8in. (26.8 x 17.5cm.)
