Medieval to post medieval purse frame
Description
English: A copper-alloy fragment of a Late Medieval to early post-Medieval purse frame of London Museum type AD (Ward-Perkins 1967: 166-167).

The piece has is ‘V-shaped’ in section, the groove being on the inside of the frame. The convex outer surface bears the incised legend ‘GLORIA’ between two lengths of foliate scrollwork ornamentation. Both the pattern and legend retains traces of a corroded niello infill. The inner side has flat sufaces which bear file marks and have two circular ‘sewing holes’, by which the materials would have been attached. The artefact has suffered post-depositional damage. It measures 86.6mm long, 7.2mm wide and 4.3mm high. It weighs 13.48g.
