Medieval to Post Medieval Purse frame
Description
English: A twisted copper alloy fragment from a medieval or post medieval purse frame dating to the period c. AD 1450 - 1550.

The fragment consists of an narrow length of copper alloy bar with a L-shaped cross-section which terminates in an old break at either end. The is shallowly curved in profile. The outer surface is decorated with a pairs of parallel incised lines that zig diagonally from one side of the bar to the other and then zag the other. This motif carries on along the length of the surviving object.

The artefact has a light green patina.

The fragment is 48mm long, 5-7mm wide and weighs 6.59 grams.

This is a piece of a London Museum type A1 purse frame, dating from the late 15th to early 16th century (see Ward-Perkins 1967: 162-167). Very similar examples on the database include SOM-610C5B and BH-FA9C93
