Title
Medieval purse: Purse bar
Description
English:

A cast copper alloy purse bar and asociated loop dating to the late medieval or ealy post-medieval period, c. AD 1450-1550. The bar is short in length with a large central rectangular boss, ribbed arms and terminals with rounded knops. Only a fragment of the loop from the hanging frame is retained around one arm of the purse bar. A long pendant loop is fixed through the purse bar boss and still swivels freely; The loop has a large rounded knop at the base and a flat-sectioned neck that fits through the hole in the boss. Three raised collars separate the neck from the loop itself. The boss is decorated on either face with deeply incised diagonal scores. No other decoration is evident. This type of purse frame is very simlar to those of Ward-Perkins' (1954) Type B1, Williams Class C1.
