Medieval Purse Frame (Fragment)
Description
English: Fragment of a purse frame of late Medieval to early Post Medieval date. Cast in copper alloy, the frame is decorated with a niello inlaid double cross-hatched design, with approximately two thirds of the niello surviving. The curved frame is 'V' shape in cross section, measuring 7.06mm in width by 5.16mm in thickness. The surviving length of the frame is 52.6mm long, with worn breaks at each end. There are three evenly spaced circular rivet holes on the inner edge towards one end. The frame has an even mid green patina.
