Victoria was horn May 24,1819, at Kensington Palace, England. Her father, Edward, Duke of Kent, fourth son of George 111., died the next year ;and a special responsibility thus devolved upon the mother, which she is said to have met with remarkable punctualityand prudence. The Duchess of Kent was the daughter of Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg, and the sister k>( Leopold, Kingof the Belgians.
