Description
Deutsch: Die Festung wurde im Wesentlichen im Auftrag von König Herodes I. (dem Großen) etwa zwischen 40 v. Chr. und 30 v. Chr. an der Stelle einer älteren Festung erbaut. Zu ihrer Zeit galt sie als uneinnehmbar.
English: Masada was the first site Herod the Great fortified after he gained control of his kingdom. The upper terrace of the Northern Palace included living quarters for the king and a semicircular portico to provide a view of the area.
