MARYBOROUGH.

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Wonders will never cease. At last we are to have a bridge over the Mary, and no mistake. Mr. Brierly has set to work in real earnest; and the people feel satisfied that the Minister for Works is "the right man in the right place," more especially as the Chronicle actually approves of the appointment. Mr. King may now dub us his "dear beloved Maryborough" as soon as he likes, and he may consider he is the representative of this place whenever he pleases. Mr. Macalister may look upon the Wide Bay electors as staunch supporters of his Government if he will only do us common justice; we ask no more, and will be satisfied with no less. There are a few things besides the bridge we require: one is making the proposed railway go through our agricultural and mineral lands to Gympie; deepening our river, and giving us what we must soon have, or die like rotten sheep - a pure supply of water taken from the head of Tinana Creek. The filthy stuff we are at present compelled to drink from the Yululu waterhole is abominable; it is nothing else but the surface-drainage of one-half of our not over-clean town. As to the railway route which Mr. Stanley has designed to take to Gympie, no one but himself knows. Let us only hope that he may take the inhabitants of both towns into consideration, and give us a railway that will be most useful to all concerned.
