Description

Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) in the park of the Marienburg in Thal, Canton St Gallen, Switzerland. It is a giant among the cypress plants, to which the giant Thuja belongs. In its original habitat, the Pacific coast of the USA, the giant thuja can grow up to 60 m high, but as a cultivated plant in Central Europe it rarely grows over 30 m high. The plant is poisonous and threatened with extinction.

The castle and the park of Marienburg are a cultural asset of regional importance (KGS no. 14082).
