| Description |
My friend Steve and his Morgan/Friesian mare, Mariah, trotting through the deep snow at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo, MN. They were competing at the St. Croix Valley Carriage and Driving Society's annual Sleigh and Cutter Festival. I don't know about you, but there is something about the sound of metal runners gliding across the snow and the sound of jingle bells on a winter day that warms my soul. I know that some of you out there don't like the fur coats. In this case, Steve and his companion are trying to look the part of individuals who would be traveling in a small cutter during that time period as part of the judging for the event. All of the furs in this photo are antique. The sleigh is also an antique. It was build around the turn of the 20th century in Quebec, Canada by J. A. Roy company. What is unusual is that this is a Portland style cutter. Typically, a Canadian company wouldn't build a sleigh of this style. |
