English: Major W. C. [Wilfred Courtney] Sinel 12/293 - Distinguished Service Order and Bar. 2nd Battalion, Auckland Regiment. Major Sinel left New Zealand with the Main Body as Second in Command of the 6th Hauraki Regiment: fought through the Gallipoli Campaign where he was gazetted Major on the field: wounded at Suvla Bay, invalided to New Zealand, left again with 21st Reinforcements, won all his distinctions on the field. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the advance of the battalion of which he was in command was held up by an intense fire artillery and machine-guns he went forward to the front line, and by skilful leadership pushed on the attack. While doing this he was wounded. During the work of consolidation he repelled three determined counter-attacks. Throughout the operations his courage and ability inspired the greatest confidence in his men.
