Description
Nederlands: 'Kinderen op rots in volle zee' is een laat voorbeeld van het werk van de succesvolle schilder Louis Meijer. De invloed van zijn verblijf in Frankrijk vele jaren eerder is hier zichtbaar. Het schilderij van jonge, wanhopige drenkelingen is namelijk gesitueerd tegen de achtergrond van de Franse kust. De thematiek van het schilderij sluit aan bij de heersende romantische opvatting dat de mens nietig is ten opzichte van de woeste en oncontroleerbare natuur. jc 0727
