Deutsch: Das porträtierte Paar gehörte zu den aufstrebenden Kaufmannsfamilien Bremens in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Oltmann Thyen (1821 Apen/Oldenburg - 1891 Bremen) gründete 1851 die Schiffsreederei "O.Thyen" und heiratete im selben Jahr Maria S. R. Wilkens (1829 - 1867 Bremen), Tochter des Bremer Kaufmanns Georg Wilkens.[1]
