Summary

{{ | | | | | | }}
Description
English: This scroll fragment is made of two sheets of fine yellow paper, with large missing areas at the beginning and at the end. There are several small holes and a medium-size hole on the first sheet, as well as traces of water damage across the manuscript.

The verso contains part of Chapter 1 of the Lotus Sutra's translation in Chinese by Kumarajiva, starting from "亦隨脩梵行 (yi sui xiu fan xin)" and ending at "[助發]實像義 ([zhu fa] shi xiang yi)". The vertical lines of text, with 20 characters each, are regularly written within margins and guidelines. The verso of the fragment is blank, with the exception of 'ch 96 b' in blue crayon and the manuscript number 's.970 ' added in the 20th century, after the manuscript was removed from Mogao Cave 17, near Dunhuang, China.

This scroll was conserved and digitised as part of the Lotus Sutra Manuscripts Digitisation Project, generously sponsored by the Bei Shan Tang Foundation.
