Summary

{{ | | | | | | }}
Description
English: As indicated by the end title 觀世音經(Guanshiyin jing), this scroll contains part of the Guanyin Sutra that is based on Chapter 25 of the Lotus Sutra 妙法蓮華經觀世音菩薩普門品第二十五 (Miao fa lian hua jing guan shi yin pu sa pu men pin di er shi wu). The manuscript is made of five sheets of fine yellow paper, with the first one missing its lower right corner. Margins and guidelines divide each sheet into 28 vertical lines of text. There are 17 characters in each row on average (up to 20 characters for parts of the text in verse). The content starts from “得解脫。若有持是觀世音菩薩名(de jie tuo. ruo you chi shi guanshiyin pusa ming)” and stops up at the end of the chapter “阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心 (A nou duo luo san miao san pu ti xin)”. Historical conservation patches made to repair the scroll can be seen on the verso as well. There are repeated water damage marks and losses across the scroll. The manuscript number 's.1609' in black and red ink, the Suzhou numeral 1233 in red crayon and the inscription 觀音經 were recorded on the verso. These are twentieth-century additions, made after the manuscript was taken from Cave 17, near Dunhuang. The manuscript was recently conserved as part of the Lotus Sutra Manuscripts Digitisation Project and presents several small conservation infills. This scroll was conserved and digitised as part of the Lotus Sutra Manuscripts Digitisation Project, generously sponsored by the Bei Shan Tang Foundation.
