Description
English: This photograph is from a French postcard printed in Paris. It shows the ruined village of Thiepval, in the northern Somme area. Two soldiers, possibly French, are looking at an abandoned engine which may have been a steam tractor. It is likely that it was abandoned by the Germans during the Allied advance after August 1918.

It is a printed postcard. It appears rather strange to print a postcard of a ruined village but from the Allied viewpoint the recapture of Thiepval and the other villages on the Somme during the Battle of Amiens was the turning point that led to the end of the war. The original caption appears to include a rough-and-ready - and bizarrely inaccurate! - attempt at translation from the French.
