Text Appearing Before Image:
on election night. James Jones is penitent, and states thathe was thrown into the matter by Charles Chester, theleader of the Killers. As for Charles, his body was found the second day of theriot, amid the cinders of the demolished groggery. The beltof money about his waist, although scorched by the flame wasnot altogether destroyed. It fell into the hands of a worthypolice officer, who would have kept it to himself had he notbeen obliged to buy himself out of the hands of justice. The funerals of the victims of the riot were attended by avast body of citizens, particularly that of the brave CharlesHimmelwright, who so nobly fell in the discharge of his duty, shot by the murderous pistols of the Killers. That terrible body of outlaws still exists in a broken state, and no one knows how soon their misdeeds may again shockthe moral sense of the world. The youth of our land shouldlearn wisdom from the fate of Charles Anderson Chester, theLeader of the Killers. THE END. LIBRARY OF CONGRESS
