Description

La cour sud du complexe funéraire de Djéser (pharaon de la IIIème dynastie dont le règne s'étend de 2700 à 2670)

Imhotep est l'architecte de ce complexe dont l'enceinte rectangulaire, orientée nord-sud, mesure 277 m par 544m. À l'origine, le puits menant au caveau souterrain était recouvert d'un mastaba carré de 63m de coté. Jugé trop restreint, le mastaba a été recouvert d'une pyramide à degrés, composée d'abord de 4 degrés puis de 6 degrés. C'est la première grande pyramide de l'histoire de l'Égypte.

L'étude de ce complexe funéraire a été menée durant de nombreuses années par l'archéologue Jean-Philippe Lauer.
