Title
Late medieval purse frame - from above
Description
English: Incomplete copper-alloy purse frame of late medieval or early post-medieval date. It consists of a slightly curved frame measuring 71.9mm long, with a circular cross-section 5.1mm in diameter. Two small loops extend from the underside of the piece and would originally have held the fabric purse to the frame. At each end of the piece is a single transverse incised line. The finials are missing. Traces of black exist on the surface and it is difficult to tell whether this is niello, the black 'lacquer' often found on these objects, or simply a corrosion product. Weight 14.42g.
