Title |
Late medieval/early post-medieval purse frame |
||
Description |
English: A worn cast copper-alloy fragment: part of the frame of a late medieval or early post-medieval purse. In plan the object is curved in an arc which is not quite semi-circular. In cross-section it is solid oval. Protruding from the same, lower edge are three-and-a-half semi-circular elements with recessed preforations (one is broken). It would have been through these holes that the frame was sewn to the fabric purse (Geake 2001, 43). On the upper edge is a group of crudely incised transverse lines. Such an arrangement can be seen on a purse frame illustrated in Read (2001, 132; ref. 917). |
