| Description |
English: One of five US Navy-operated fleet tugs located at Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. At an average age of about 43 years, the Kittanning and its sister tugs have outlasted many of their original parts suppliers, and repair parts must be fabricated by the Ship Repair Facility on base.
An all-enlisted crew from the CFAY Port Operations department operates and maintains each tug. The departure of the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) in early 2008 gave the crews a much-needed chance to finish overhauling the tug fleet prior to the arrival of the nuclear-powered USS George Washington (CVN-73) in September.
