Description

Entre le Nil et la lisière du désert, la plaine de Thèbes ouest était, avant la construction du barrage d'Assouan, inondée au moment de la crue annuelle du fleuve. Elle est recouverte de limon et est très fertile avec trois récoltes par an de canne à sucre, de trèfle, de blé et de légumes.

Dans l'Antiquité, Thèbes était célèbre pour sa production agricole. A l'époque dynastique, plusieurs canaux furent creusés, l'un d'entre eux était orienté nord-sud, il passait près des temples de millions d'années et jouait un rôle important dans la "belle fête de la vallée" car les statues des dieux et du pharaon étaient transportées dans des embarcations.
