English: Dernier portrait du poète Jean-Antoine Roucher, dessiné à la prison de Saint-Lazare le 6 Thermidor an 2 (24 juillet 1794) vers 11 h du matin, avant sa comparution au Tribunal révolutionnaire. Roucher y inscrivit de sa main cet ultime message destiné à ses proches :
À ma femme, À mes enfans, À mes amis. Ne vous étonnez pas, objets sacrés et doux, / Si quelqu’air de tristesse obscurcit mon visage : / Quand un savant crayon dessinoit cette image, / J’attendois l’échaffaut, et je pensois à vous. / J. A. Roucher. Roucher est exécuté le lendemain. Le dessin a été présenté au Salon de 1795 (livret no 347), puis gravé Jacques Bouilliard et reproduit en frontspice de l’ouvrage Consolations de ma captivité ou Correspondance de Roucher. Ila aussi été reproduit par l’héliogravure (impr. Maire) publiée par Antoine Guillois, en guise de frontispice de l’ouvrage qu’il consacre à son bisaïeul : Pendant la Terreur, le poète Roucher, Paris, Calmann Lévy, 1890. L'oeuvre est conservée chez les descendants directs du poète jusqu’à Paul Roucher, qui, sans postérité, décide d’en faire don au Musée Carnavalet en 1913.Français : Last portrait of French poet Jean-Antoine Roucher, drawn in Saint-Lazare Prison, 24 July 1794 |
