Toelichting From the 18th-century onwards German immigrants formed a large part of the goldsmiths-community in Amsterdam. In the early years one of the most prominent was Christiaan Warenberg or Warmberger from Augsburg, a specialist in French inspired models with a certain German flavour. Outspoken designs are in the Rijksmuseum collection, of which this coffee-urn is a grand example in miniature. Fullscale models are also known (compare BK-NM-12307-A). More restrained models were used in 1726 for the Lutheran community in Amsterdam, as can be seen in the new Luther-museum at Nieuwe Keizersgracht 570 in Amsterdam.
