| Description |
English: SR Bulleid Pacific leaving King's Cross during 1948 Exchange Trials. View northward from Platform 10 towards Gasworks Tunnel and the North. In the summer after Nationalisation in January 1948, extensive trials with express, mixed traffic and heavy freight locomotives were carried out by exchanging LMSR, LNER, GWR and SR locomotives between the new Regions, in order to assist in the design of new Standard BR locomotives. The SR Bulleid Pacifics had to be fitted with LMS tenders in order to be able to pick up water from water-troughs. No. 35017 'Belgian Marine' (built 4/45 as No. 21C17, rebuilt 3/57, withdrawn 7/66), which is leaving (with dynamometer car) on the 13.10 to Leeds, did very well in the Exchanges. |
