English: This is the transliteration of the word "Khamnung" in Meitei/Meetei/Manipuri script. "Khamnung" ("Khamnoong") literally means the underworld, the mythical abode of the dead, imagined as being under the earth, the netherworld, the abyss or the Hades. But the Khamnung kingdom is not only the realm of evil and suffering, but also the destination for good souls in Meitei mythology and religion (Sanamahism) of Antique Kangleipak (Ancient Manipur). In Meitei language, the word "Leinung" ("Leinoong") is used to refer to every forms of underworld based on any religion, while the term "Khamnung" is reserved only for Sanamahism.
