English: Junction on A671. The main road from Whalley splits for Accrington and Padiham. The little road behind the sign climbs from Portfield Bar . The picture is of the old toll bar cottage.
Portfield Lane passes the Hill fort known as Portfield; this dates back to at least the Iron Age. Some artefacts have been found from the earlier Bronze Age period. |
